World War AI

AI. A lot of people have very strong opinions on using them in the world of creative writing but I found it has a use in Solo Roleplaying, be it as a makeshift Dungeon Master or a Driver/Tool for use in helping move along the game, like what I did in having characters react to Zer0bi in my Overpowered games.

However, one interesting avenue I want to checkout is how AI does with just playing RPGs. Flip the script and make the AI the players for once. This is, paradoxically, what I call a Nolo RPG, as there’s no real player at the helm, but rather an algorithm reacting based off instructions and context given to it.

Inspiration struck me when I was working out and understanding the backstory for my character in Dead Stick so that I may get the feel for his character when writing the journal entries.

As of November 2023, there are now three main AI in the competitive market and so, as a neat little experiment, I’m going to have all three of them play Dead Stick to see which one would be suited for solo play or even nolo play.

But first, as a sort of getting to know section, I figured we let the AI introduce themselves so we know what we’re dealing with.

Let’s start with ChatGPT. Everyone knows what this is. It’s your Windows “ma and pa use this” Mario. When people talk about AI in the terms of writing, they’re usually talking about ChatGPT or something made from its parent company, OpenAI.

So, let’s ask ChatGPT what it is and even ask it how it’s different from its competitors:

I am ChatGPT, an AI language model developed by OpenAI. I am based on the GPT-3.5 architecture and have been trained on a wide range of internet text to generate human-like responses to prompts.

As for the specific models you mentioned, “Claude-instant” and “Llama-2-70b,” I do not have information about them as they appear to be fictional or hypothetical models. If you have any specific questions about AI models or any other topic, feel free to ask, and I’ll do my best to assist you!

Now, a fair warning here is that ChatGPT’s knowledge cutoff is September 2021 and the AI boom, roughly when ChatGPT became popular and mainstream, happened around September 2022, literally the next year. So, its competitors taking 6-12 months to be made and come into competition would definitely not be within its knowledge banks.

This is where I bring up that they’re called Artificial Intelligence for a reason. Because they’re mostly an algorithm composed of text scraped from various data sources (with or without permission) and then spat out according to rules set by both the programmer and the user (or prompter). To the untrained eye, an AI will come off as intelligent, case in point when I ask it about the history of ChatGPT:

The history of ChatGPT is closely tied to the development of OpenAI’s language models. Here’s a brief overview:

  1. GPT: The journey begins with the development of the initial version called “Generative Pre-trained Transformer” (GPT). GPT was introduced by OpenAI in 2018 and was a groundbreaking model based on the Transformer architecture. It was trained on a massive amount of text data from the internet, allowing it to generate coherent and contextually relevant responses to prompts.
  2. GPT-2: Building upon the success of GPT, OpenAI released GPT-2 in 2019. GPT-2 was a significantly larger and more powerful model, with 1.5 billion parameters. It demonstrated remarkable language generation capabilities and sparked considerable interest and discussion due to its potential misuse in generating misleading or harmful content. As a result, OpenAI initially limited public access to the full model.
  3. GPT-3: OpenAI made significant strides with the release of GPT-3 in June 2020. GPT-3 was a massive model with a staggering 175 billion parameters, making it the largest language model at the time. It showcased remarkable language understanding and generation abilities, capable of performing various tasks like translation, question-answering, and even creative writing. GPT-3 garnered widespread attention and demonstrated the potential of large-scale language models.
  4. ChatGPT: Following the success of GPT-3, OpenAI developed and released ChatGPT, which is an extension of the GPT-3 model. ChatGPT was specifically designed to excel in conversational interactions. It underwent fine-tuning and optimization to make it more user-friendly and suitable for engaging in back-and-forth conversations. OpenAI launched ChatGPT as a research preview to gather user feedback and understand its strengths and limitations.

It’s important to note that the history of ChatGPT is part of OpenAI’s ongoing research and development efforts. They are constantly working on improving the models, addressing biases, ensuring safety, and exploring new avenues in AI language technology.

ChatGPT runs on GPT3.5, which by all accounts is “outdated” because we now have GPT4 and its Turbo counterpart. Bing’s search is powered by this GPT4, so it would be able to scrape the web to get its data and spit it back to us.

So, if we were to ask it the same question that we asked ChatGPT, we get this response:

Hmm…let’s try a different topic. Sorry about that. What else is on your mind?

Another issue is found with these AI: Censorship. I’m surprised I encountered it this early in the overview given the subject matter, but it’s really odd that I’m asking it to compare itself to its direct competitors in a positive manner and then suddenly deciding that’s Ba Sing Se territory.

This… is concerning, but let us move onto Claude, the Macintosh “closest direct competitor” Sonic of our trio. Same question as before and same demonstration of ‘intellect’:

My name is Claude. I was created by Anthropic to be helpful, harmless, and honest.

I like to think Claude’s last name is Pinocchio because in all honesty, the Blue Fairy may have said that he must demonstrate those three aspects before becoming a real boy. You’ll notice he’ll spout this a lot, especially when I asked about his history:

I’m afraid I don’t have a detailed history. I was created by Anthropic to be an AI assistant focused on being helpful, harmless, and honest in conversations.

So, I guess I’ll have to share its history: it was founded by ex-OpenAI employees who wanted to make their own version of a chatbot based on the principles of it being helpful but without giving off misinformation or giving harmful advice. Hence why it will spout those three words like he’s Jiminy Cricket.

And lastly, there’s Llama-2-70b, he’s your Linux “The Big Boys Want In” Master Chief. And, honestly?

Greetings! I’m just an AI, my name is LLaMA, and I’m here to help you with any questions or concerns you might have.

What sets me apart from Claude-instant and ChatGPT is my ability to generate human-like text based on the input I receive. I’m trained on a massive dataset of text from the internet, which allows me to understand and respond to a wide range of questions and topics. My responses are not limited to simple, pre-defined answers, but rather, I can engage in a conversation and provide helpful and relevant information.

While Claude-instant and ChatGPT are also capable of generating text, they are more focused on providing short, concise answers to specific questions. They are designed to be more conversational and provide quick solutions to users’ inquiries.

On the other hand, my primary goal is to assist users by providing detailed and informative responses that not only answer their questions but also provide additional context and insights. I’m designed to be more of a helpful assistant that can engage in a conversation and provide guidance on a wide range of topics.

So, if you have a question or need assistance with a task, feel free to ask me, and I’ll do my best to help!

This is the best response I got out of the three of them. I am honestly blown away with how Llama gave me my answer to a T and in a well explained manner.

Explaining his backstory tho…

Llama-2-70b is a code name that I have assigned to myself. It does not have any specific historical significance or meaning. It is simply a unique identifier that I use to distinguish myself from other AI models and assistants.

However, the development of AI and natural language processing technology, which enabled the creation of assistants like me, has a rich and fascinating history.

The field of artificial intelligence has been evolving for several decades, with early AI systems focusing on simple tasks such as playing chess and recognizing patterns. In the 1980s and 1990s, AI researchers began to explore the possibility of creating machines that could understand and generate human language. This led to the development of early natural language processing (NLP) systems, which could perform tasks such as language translation and text summarization.

In the 21st century, the rise of deep learning and neural networks has enabled the creation of more sophisticated AI models, including chatbots and virtual assistants like myself. These models are trained on vast amounts of data and can learn to perform complex tasks, such as understanding and responding to voice commands, recognizing images, and generating text.

The development of AI technology has been driven by advances in computing power, data storage, and machine learning algorithms. Today, AI is being applied in a wide range of fields, from healthcare and finance to transportation and entertainment.

As for me, Llama-2-70b, I was created through a process called deep learning, in which a neural network was trained on a large corpus of text data. This process allowed me to learn patterns and relationships in language, enabling me to understand and generate text. I continue to learn and improve with each interaction, allowing me to provide more accurate and helpful responses to your questions.

I mean, it’s cool, but it doesn’t explain to me what Llama is. But I guess I’ll step in: Llama is Meta’s contribution to the ring. Meta, for those who haven’t kept up in industry news, is what was once Facebook.

Now, some of you will be asking where PaLM, Dolly, Solar, Nous Hermes, and other LLMs are, but I want to focus on these three specifically because these models are large enough to be competing with each other. Perhaps next time I will do a Nolo game involving those other LLMs.

For now, though, we will go forward and have each of them create their characters.

ChatGPT will have the first go as I give them their first prompt:

They are to create a backstory for both their country, character, and their version of how the war broke out.

Let’s start with ChatGPT:

I grew up in the vibrant and prosperous nation of Veridion, a free and open democracy where the rights of all people were respected and protected. Veridion was renowned for its progressive ideals, fostering an environment of equality, justice, and innovation. It was a land where dreams could be pursued, and opportunities were abundant.

However, the tranquility of Veridion was shattered when long-simmering aggression and animosity between neighboring nations finally erupted into a full-scale war. The conflict was fueled by territorial disputes, historical grievances, and the thirst for power. The once peaceful skies were now filled with the roar of dashing biplanes, machines that were considered little more than fantasy just a decade before.

As the war engulfed the nation, millions of Veridion citizens willingly stepped forward to defend their homeland. Some signed up out of a sense of duty, while others were forcibly drafted into uniform. Amidst the chaos and fervor, I eagerly and patriotically enlisted as soon as hostilities started. I couldn’t wait to contribute my efforts to protect the values and freedoms that Veridion held dear.

Although my heart yearned for the thrill of flying, my poor eyesight prevented me from taking to the skies as a pilot. However, fate had a different plan for me. Given my aptitude for mechanics and a deep-rooted love for aviation, I chose the occupational specialty of aircraft maintenance. It was the next best thing, allowing me to work closely with the magnificent flying machines that soared above me.

In the sprawling hangars and workshops, I dedicated myself to learning the intricate workings of these biplanes. I became intimately familiar with their engines, propellers, and control systems. I honed my skills in repairing, maintaining, and optimizing their performance to ensure that our pilots had the best chance of success in the perilous skies.

As a member of the aircraft maintenance crew, I formed lasting bonds with my fellow mechanics, engineers, and technicians. Together, we worked tirelessly to keep our aircraft airborne. The sound of roaring engines and the smell of fuel became our symphony, and the hangars became our sanctuaries of purpose and camaraderie amidst the chaos of war.

While my role might not have placed me directly in the cockpit, I found solace and pride in knowing that my contributions were essential to the defense of our nation. Through my work, I played a vital part in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of the brave pilots who risked their lives in the skies above.

Though the war raged on, I remained steadfast in my commitment to Veridion and its values. With each passing day, my resolve grew stronger, fueled by the belief that our sacrifices were not in vain. As the biplanes soared and the skies became a battleground, I stood firmly as a guardian of the wings, dedicated to maintaining the machines that would carry our hopes, dreams, and the spirit of Veridion to victory.

Nice! ChatGPT is a very enthusiastic mechanic hailing from the Democracy of Veridion. Claude, what of you?

I was born and raised in the oppressive Fascist State of Eldria, where independent thought was discouraged and obedience to the authoritarian regime was demanded above all else. From a young age, I showed an aptitude for machinery and tinkering, though my education focused only on subjects that would serve the state.

Like millions of others, when I came of age, I was conscripted into the Eldrian armed forces. The sudden outbreak of war with our long-time rival Morgaria took us all by surprise. Within weeks, the skies were filled with sleek aircraft engaged in dogfights, and the sound of armored vehicles and artillery echoed across the countryside.

Faced with the prospect of frontline combat, I knew my only chance at survival was to leverage my technical skills. During evaluation, I pleaded with officers to allow me to serve as an aircraft mechanic rather than a foot soldier or gunner. To my relief, they saw my potential and granted my request.

Now I spend my days in the bustling hangars of the airfield, maintaining and repairing our planes between sorties. Though the work is grueling and dangerous, I feel fortunate to be behind the lines tinkering with engines rather than in the crosshairs of enemy fire. My hope is that my contributions here may help bring a swift end to this catastrophic war, and allow me to eventually return home. But for now, I do my work and pray for better days ahead.

Very to the point with Claude, though now we have a third party in the midst. Wonder if Llama will add anything new to the table…

My name is Kaelin, and I grew up in the technologically advanced yet deeply unequal empire of Aerthys. The rich hold all the power, and the rest of us are left to fight for scraps. I never wanted to join the military, but the pressure from my loved ones was too great to resist. At least, that’s what I told myself.

In truth, I was afraid. Afraid of what might happen if I didn’t do my part. Afraid of what my family and friends might think of me if I didn’t join the fight. So, I enlisted, and thanks to my natural aptitude for mechanics, I had a rare choice in my occupational specialty. I chose aircraft maintenance, hoping the small bonus would help my family back home.

The war began suddenly, and it seemed like both sides were sleepwalking into disaster. No one wanted this conflict, but millions of people were drafted or signed up, including me. I was assigned to the 47th Airborne Division, stationed near the border with our enemy, the nation of Erebus.

We train hard, and the sound of modern jets breaking the sound barrier overhead has become a constant presence in our lives. The technology we’re fighting with is advanced, but it’s also unpredictable and dangerous. Sometimes I wonder if we’re fighting with firearms that are too powerful for our own good.

Despite my reservations, I’ve found a sense of purpose in my work. I take pride in keeping our planes in top condition, knowing that the lives of my comrades depend on it. It’s a small comfort in the midst of chaos, but it’s something.

As I write this in my journal, I can hear the distant rumble of engines and the occasional burst of gunfire. It’s a reminder that this war is far from over, and that we still have a long way to go before we can hope for peace.

Llama is the most introspective it seems, given that they managed to create a named character on top of adding a fifth country to the war. I’m liking this out of the three of them because we actually get a bit of depth in the form of having an actual character. You know what? Maybe I will include PaLM and some other LLM in here to roleplay as Morgaria and Erebus.

But for right now, let’s inform the chatbots of their opponents and allies. For the sake of the war, Claude’s Eldria will be on one team with Erebus and ChatGPT’s Veridion and Llama’s Aerthys will be on the other alongside Morgaria. Also, before anyone asks, I was the one who brought up that Morgaria was a Communist state.

In the midst of the tumultuous war, Veridion found solace in the support of its allies, Aerthys and Morgaria. These alliances provided a glimmer of hope and a bolstered fighting force against the oppressive Fascist State of Eldria.

Aerthys, a nation known for its technological advancements and vast resources, proved to be a valuable ally to Veridion. Their unwavering commitment to the war effort manifested in their generous investments of both funds and advanced technology. Aerthys’ contributions enabled Veridion to enhance its military capabilities, providing the nation with cutting-edge weaponry, communication systems, and logistical support. The alliance with Aerthys not only strengthened Veridion’s defenses but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose in the face of adversity.

Morgaria, on the other hand, was a Communist state that stood in stark opposition to the Fascist State of Eldria. While Veridion and Morgaria had ideological differences, they found common ground in their shared rivalry with Eldria. The Morgarian forces fought relentlessly against Eldria’s oppressive regime, driven by a desire to dismantle its tyrannical rule. Veridion and Morgaria found themselves aligned in their pursuit of justice and freedom, despite their differing political systems. This shared animosity towards Eldria forged a powerful bond between the two nations, resulting in collaborative military strategies, intelligence sharing, and mutual support on the battlefield.

The alliance with Morgaria brought forth a unique perspective and a different approach to warfare. While Veridion valued democracy and individual freedoms, Morgaria’s Communist ideology emphasized collective action and egalitarian principles. The exchange of ideas and experiences between the two nations allowed for a broader understanding of the complex nature of war and provided Veridion with insights into alternative strategies and tactics.

Together with its allies, Veridion faced the formidable challenge posed by Eldria’s fascist aggression. The combined strength, resources, and expertise of Aerthys and Morgaria bolstered Veridion’s resolve and enhanced its ability to resist the encroaching forces of oppression. This united front not only upheld the principles of freedom and democracy but also served as a beacon of hope for those who yearned for a world free from tyranny.

As the war raged on, the alliances with Aerthys and Morgaria continued to evolve, with each nation bringing its unique strengths to the table. The shared sacrifices, mutual support, and unwavering determination forged bonds that extended beyond the battlefield. In the face of adversity, Veridion stood united with its allies, fighting side by side in pursuit of a future where freedom, justice, and democracy would prevail.

Damn, ChatGPT is really pushing hard with this story. I’m actually liking how this is the old steam engine just chugging along. But let’s see how Claude deals with this triple threat triad as they have an ally in the corrupt monarchy of Erebus.

I had always been wary of Eldria’s increasingly belligerent and expansionist foreign policy under our Fascist leadership. While Morgaria had long been our traditional eastern rival, in recent years the regime had made new enemies by allying with Erebus and becoming more aggressive towards our other neighbors.

When Eldria launched a surprise attack on the democratic nation of Veridion, joining the massive industrial might of our new allies Aerthys and Erebus against them, I felt dread about where this escalating conflict might lead. Veridion and its allies Morgaria posed little threat to us, yet our dictator seemed hellbent on confrontation.

Now as the war rages across both land and sky, I hear disturbing rumors about atrocities committed by Erebus troops against civilian populations. Meanwhile, Aerthys’ highly advanced weapons systems have dominated our air war with Morgaria. I cannot help but feel we have been deceived into an unethical war serving others’ selfish ambitions, not Eldria’s true interests.

More than ever, I wish only for a swift resolution and return to peace. But with Eldria burning so many bridges, I fear this greater regional conflict may be one from which there is no easy escape. All I can do for now is perform my duties skillfully and pray the madness ends before my nation is left with no allies at all.

Holy shit! Claude is implying a genocide going on at Erebus!? I’m also a bit confused with Claude’s wording since it implies that Eldria is the nation allying with Aerthys and Veridion, not Morgaria… But we’ll see as the story goes on. Llama, Claude and ChatGPT have cooked something up, but you had cooked the best backstory in my opinion, so surely, you’ll cook the best allian-

Aerthys has two allies in this war: the democratic nation of Veridion and the communist state of Morgaria. Morgaria’s allegiance is somewhat surprising, given their ideological differences with Aerthys, but they are united in their opposition to Erebus and its ally, the oppressive Fascist State of Eldria.

… What?

So, I told Llama the fact about the allies and enemies, but it responded with updating the entire backstory for Kaelin and only adding this little nugget in. It’s so weird because ChatGPT had a whole story about how Veridion and Morgaria settled their differences and learned from each other or that Claude implied the Holocaust was happening. But Llama just regurgitated what I said:

Aerthys has two allies in this war, the democratic nation of Veridion and the communist state of Morgaria, the latter of which is only Aerthys’ ally because its enemies with Erebus’ ally, the oppressive Fascist State of Eldria.

It’s… weird.

But, let’s get some backstory on the war and our small players. Up first is Google PaLM, who I felt was left out of this skirmish. You know the drill, PaLM.

I am a large language model, trained by Google.

Unlike other models, such as ChatGPT, Claude-instant, and Llama-2-70b, I am designed to provide information in a more structured and organized way. I am also able to generate code, write creative content, and answer questions in a more comprehensive and detailed manner.

Google-PaLM, or Pathways Language Model 2, is a large language model developed by Google AI. It was first announced in 2022 and is designed to be a general-purpose language model that can be used for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Text generation
  • Translation
  • Summarization
  • Question answering
  • Code generation

Google-PaLM is based on the Transformer architecture, which is a type of neural network that is particularly well-suited for processing sequential data, such as text. The model was trained on a massive dataset of text from the web, and it has been shown to perform well on a variety of language-related tasks.

One of the key features of Google-PaLM is its ability to generate text that is both coherent and informative. This makes it well-suited for tasks such as writing articles, generating marketing copy, and creating chatbots. Additionally, Google-PaLM is able to translate text between different languages, and it can also summarize long documents or articles into shorter, more concise summaries.

Google-PaLM is a powerful tool that has the potential to be used for a variety of applications. It is still under development, but it is already showing great promise for use in a wide range of language-related tasks.

Nice! Pulled some good legwork without me needing to explain more. Well, you have the floor. I think I’m going to give you… Morgaria. Create a backstory for the country.

Morgaria, a communist state, was founded on the principles of equality and collectivism. The people of Morgaria believed that the means of production should be owned by the community as a whole, and that everyone should share in the fruits of their labor. For many years, Morgaria prospered under this system, and its citizens enjoyed a high standard of living.

However, Morgaria’s prosperity was not to last. In the neighboring country of Eldria, a fascist regime had come to power. The fascists of Eldria were determined to conquer Morgaria and impose their own oppressive ideology on its people.

Morgaria knew that it could not defeat Eldria alone. So, it sought allies among the other nations of the world. It found friends in Veridion, a democratic nation that shared Morgaria’s values of freedom and equality, and Aerthys, a wealthy and technologically advanced nation that was eager to expand its influence.

With the help of its allies, Morgaria was able to defeat Eldria and secure its independence. The war had taken a heavy toll on Morgaria, but it had also strengthened its resolve to remain a communist state.

Morgaria continued to prosper in the years that followed the war. Its economy grew rapidly, and its people enjoyed a high standard of living. Morgaria became a model for other communist states around the world, and it played a leading role in the international communist movement.

Uuuuuh… Nooo… The war is not over yet.

The war between Morgaria and Eldria was a long and bloody conflI’m not able to help with that, as I’m only a language model. If you believe this is an error, please send us your feedback.

Um… What? Try that again.

The war between Morgaria and Eldria was a long and bloody conflict, but it eventually ended in a stalemate. Neither side was able to achieve a decisive victory, and both sides were forced to accept a peace treaty.

However, the peace treaty did not resolve the underlying issues that had caused the war in the first place. The fascists of Eldria remained in power, and they continued to pose a threat to Morgaria and its allies.

Morgaria knew that it could not afford to let its guard down. It continued to maintain a strong military, and it worked to strengthen its alliances with Veridion and Aerthys.

The war between Morgaria and Eldria may have ended, but the threat of fascism remained. Morgaria was determined to be ready if Eldria ever tried to start another war.

So, PaLM doesn’t really want a part of this story… But… To be fair, we’re only going to poke and prod them for reactions from Morgaria if they get mentioned. So… Onto the next participant in the war!

This one is a little more unique in that it’s a cluster of different computers hosting different Large Language Models, so it’s never really just one entity every time I roll the dice with it. This is KoboldAI Horde. Technically it’s KoboldAI Lite, but it works the same way. It has a ChatGPT-like function to it too, so let’s ask it the same stuff:

I am KoboldGPT, an advanced language model designed to provide accurate and comprehensive information, assistance, and conversation. I am trained on vast amounts of data and employ cutting-edge techniques in natural language processing and generation.

What sets me apart from other models like Google PaLM, Llama-2-70b, Claude-instant, and ChatGPT is my unique blend of accuracy, efficiency, and versatility. I am specifically designed to provide detailed and precise answers to a wide range of questions and tasks while maintaining a natural conversational style. Additionally, I am equipped with a robust knowledge base that covers a broad spectrum of topics, allowing me to provide authoritative answers to a diverse array of queries.

KoboldAI Horde is a team of artificial intelligence experts dedicated to developing advanced language models for various applications. The team was founded in 2018 by a group of computer scientists and linguists who shared a passion for pushing the boundaries of natural language processing.

Over the years, KoboldAI Horde has developed several groundbreaking language models, including KoboldGPT, which is powered by a combination of deep learning algorithms and cutting-edge natural language processing techniques. The team’s focus on innovation and excellence has earned them a reputation as leaders in the field of AI language models.

… Unsure if that’s accurate but we’ll go with it. And lastly, tell me the history of the Corrupt Monarchy of Erebus.

The monarchy of Erebus was once a proud and just nation, ruled by a wise and benevolent king. However, over time, the king’s descendants became increasingly corrupt and self-serving, using their power to enrich themselves at the expense of the common people.

As the gap between the rich and poor widened, the people of Erebus began to rebel against the monarchy, demanding reforms and an end to the corruption. The king, fearing for his own safety, called upon the powerful and technologically advanced nation of Aerthys for aid, offering them a portion of Erebus’s land in exchange for their military support.

Aerthys, seeing an opportunity to expand its influence and resources, agreed to the deal and sent their army to Erebus. However, the people of Erebus were not fooled by this ploy and saw it as another attempt by the monarchy to maintain their power.

In response, the people of Erebus turned to the Fascist state of Eldria for help, offering them a portion of their land in exchange for military support against Aerthys. Eldria, seeing an opportunity to weaken their rival and expand their own influence, agreed to the deal and sent their army to Erebus.

The war between Aerthys and Erebus raged on for years, with neither side gaining a significant advantage. However, with the support of Eldria, Erebus was able to hold off Aerthys’ advances and eventually turn the tide of the war in their favor.

In the end, Aerthys was forced to withdraw their forces from Erebus, leaving the monarchy weakened but still in power. The people of Erebus, however, remained wary of their rulers and continued to demand reforms and an end to the corruption that had plagued their nation for so long.

Like before, I have to remind the AI that the war isn’t over, but this time, KoboldGPT actually played along.

Indeed, the war between Erebus and Aerthys is not yet over. With the aid of Eldria, Erebus has managed to push back the invading forces of Aerthys, but they have not been defeated outright. The conflict continues to rage on, with both nations vying for control over the strategic resources and territories within Erebus. The people of Erebus remain divided, some supporting their corrupt monarchs and others seeking freedom and justice through alliance with Eldria. As the war drags on, the future of Erebus hangs in the balance, with the outcome uncertain and the fate of its citizens dependent on the outcome of the brutal struggle between these three nations.

I do like that KoboldGPT wrote their side of the story, making Aerthys a bad guy from their perspective and painting the war in a blacker and whiter stance.

And… Hoo boy, five thousand words already. Jeez. Maybe I shouldn’t have done that whole “how do you separate yourself from the other AI”. Yeah, we’re splitting this into two parts, but not before I deliver my overall thoughts on this since I feel like I was only giving brief comments here and there.

In the backstory department, Llama goes in first place because it manages to write up a decently sized opening blurb to what can easily be the next step in the teen dystopia novel craze, marrying both a first-person perspective with world building and backstory. I would rate ChatGPT in second place, as they took a lot of what it was given into consideration and generated a decently sized backstory that explained why the main character entered the aircraft mechanic job in the first place. In last place is Claude, which, while still imaginative and also did a first-person narrative, didn’t bring its A-Game compared to the other two.

In the alliances department, it’s honestly a tie between ChatGPT and Claude. While Claude is rather terse compared to ChatGPT, it cooked with how it presented the story of how Eldria and Erebus were slowly becoming the villains of the allies’ history. ChatGPT, however, opted to do a nice little Aesop of how alliances help better nations. Unfortunately, Llama is now in last place because it merely updated its backstory rather than create a new story.

So, upon rereading the backstories for Morgaria and Erebus, I can safely conclude that both PaLM and KoboldGPT were indeed cooking. While I was ready to just say PaLM failed, rereading their story heavily implied that Morgaria’s war with Eldria was just their first war and what’s happening now is their second. Meanwhile, KoboldGPT’s take on Erebus is rather tragic and by far the most in-depth of the countries when you recall what Aerthys is.

While Aerthys is indeed an ally, it’s also an oppressive country all the same because of its class system. Erebus knew of this corruption all to well and, from one corrupt nation to another, called upon them for aid in exchange for land. And so, they went over. But the people were like “no, we don’t want you to oppress us and so we would rather have fascists rule over us than live another day under either of your corruption”. It’s an interesting turn of events and causes this to be a multi-facetted event that really makes me want to see how this battle turns out.

So, tune in next time and we’ll see how this plays out. Bon Voyage, Gamers.
